Room in the city
Metamorphic Workshop Overview
The name Metamorphic embodies a process of organic yet persistent transformation in a designer’s thinking—precisely what this workshop seeks to cultivate. In today's architectural and design education landscape, students without prior experience often face significant challenges. Metamorphic aspires to address this gap through intensive pre-college workshops, not only as a head start for foundational design courses but as a platform for deeper self-discovery and methodological growth.
By engaging students in iterative design processes, the workshop nurtures critical thinking, creative exploration, and personal expression, empowering participants to uncover their unique design perspectives. Beyond skill-building, Metamorphic fosters a sense of community, encouraging early peer collaboration and the formation of lasting professional networks—what we refer to as our collaborative ecosystem.
The theme for the 2019 Metamorphic Workshop, "Room in the City," invited students to observe and reimagine the urban landscape of Shenzhen through a small-scale architectural project. By critically analyzing local contexts and engaging in hands-on design challenges, participants gained exposure to a diverse range of architectural principles and design strategies within a condensed yet immersive timeframe.
